Perhaps the Harper government is hesitant to attack the HRC because of fear of offence, but let us remember that many on this list favour using the velvet totalitarian concept of "hate speech" to attack disgusting antisemitic opinions of people like Zundel, and so far the CCD executive has not espoused its opposition to the Canadian "hate speech" concept, which underlies the rationale of organizations like the HRC.
Perhaps it is time that the CCD take Sharansky's distinction between fear and free societies seriously (in the latter no opinion is subject to criminal sanction or censorship by the state, but only to censure from contrary opinions), and stand clearly for Canadian freedom. It would then be in a stronger position to criticise the current federal government on the clearly principled grounds that the only difference between the OHRC and, say, the Gestapo, is that the punishments for stating offensive opinions are less severe.
All the best, John
