And just what does the federal Conservative government plan to do about it's HRC?
My MP is a Conservative back-bencher. He's also my neighbour. At a recent neighbourhood get together I asked him exactly this question.
We were told that the Harper government has no plans to either rein-in or abolish their HRC. In fact, they plan to do absolutely nothing. Why? Apparently they feel that because there are other such bodies at the provincial level, getting rid of or re-mandating the federal HRC 'wouldn't accomplish anything.'
And this glib answer just rolled off his tongue as if it was another talking point for the media. Of course there were no members of the media present - this cynical response was reserved for friends and neighbours!
Appauling. And most of us voted for this guy.
But then why would a government that feels it's appropriate to dictate what kind of light bulbs we have to use be concerned about protecting our civil liberties? It seems that they are already heavily invested in the other direction.
