Good point. CIDA does not contribute aid to some dictatorial Muslim countries (e.g., Syria and Iran), but it does contribute to other oppressive countries (Zimbabwe, China). In the case of China, it is mindless to contribute to that country, since it is in the process of industrializing. (Has the CCD staken a stand against CIDA aid to China? If not, it ought to!).

For some poor, dictatorial countries, CIDA makes a point to send the money to non-governmental agencies, instead of agencies of the government. (Note: as for the Palestinians, I think some our money goes to some government groups, though the UN. Hence, the stand taken by CCD to stop funding to this region).

As for Bangladesh, it is desparately poor. So our government ought to at least send aid only though NGOs to other NGOS, and to boycott aid to government agencies. So I will undertake an access-to-information request to obtain a list of spending projects for that country -- to see where our tax dollars are going.
