Lemire is a repulsive person and Kay says so explicitly. What Kay is pointing out is that Lemire is arguing his beliefs/positions, however untenable they might be, but to put him in jail or take away his right to free speech is the wrong approach.
The way to best Lemire and his kind is exposing the weakness and vileness of their beliefs. Trampling on his civil liberties hurts the rest of us more than Lemire and makes us look weak. They will then use the classic "only lies need laws to protect them, truth fears no questions..."
